Barack Obama, a former Democratic senator from Illinois, who announced his run for President of the United States of America in 2008. He won the general election decisively.

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) announced that he was forming an exploratory committee in January 2007[1] He then announced his candidacy for the Democratic Presidential nomination on the February 11, 2007. He was nominated as the United States Democratic Party's presidential candidate in August 2008. He was elected United States president on November 4, 2008 and is set to be inaugurated on January 20, 2009.
