Wouldn't worry a bit about freaking anyone out. By the time the Spiritualists and New Agers get here, you'll be rather conservative. Hope Victoria Woodhull comes. I really think everyone would benefit from reading her story here:[1]MakharramKhan 21:47, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I am an atheist. I do not represent any other atheists. I am a true newbie in anything politic. I want to try to create a center, from which atheists can join together and focus on the prejudice that is directed toward us. My only concern is that, if I did that here, it might freak the more religious among those to come. A recent study has shown that atheists hold the honor of being the most mistrusted and possibly hated minority in the US. We are also religiously discriminated against in certain courts. Divorcing atheists can lose their children based solely on the fact that they do not want to teach their children a religion. That is the width and breadth of the courts explanation in many cases. I love what you all are trying to do here. I do not want to see this place fail because of my actions. From what little I can tell, communication of non-opinion based information between party members would be a novelty. It is worth trying out. But I got one big cunundrum here. I would appreciate any advice. TheAtheist

Hey, Athiest. I'm a Conservative from the Religious Right, and as funny as this sounds, I'm probably even-more mistrusted and hated than you, at least by those with loud voices. Much the same way that I support free speech rights for those whom I completely disagree with, I would imagine you would be able to support free religious excercise rights even for religions that you completely disagree with. Yet the Supreme Court says that I cannot pray in any school funded by federal money, and California circuit courts say that I cannot wear a shirt that says "homosexuality is dumb" in a federally-funded school, because it 'offends people'. I find this eerily similar to your comment about 'freak[ing] the more religious'. I faced the same dilemma: how can I excercise my rights without offending people? The solution that I have come to is that a) it's not possible, and b) it's not my problem. No matter what I do in life, somebody will get offended. And if I allow that guilt to follow me around my entire life, I will never me who *I* am. And if somebody's beliefs are of such substance that they cannot stand up to criticism, then of what value are they? Yes, I think we have much more in common than you think  ;) Compaqdrew 13:04, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
