In talking to some friends who travel outside of the US, one mentioned that in a winter vacation town in southern Mexico, it is frowned upon for foreigners to get involved in local politics. So my question for this site is if that applies here. Are you comfortable talking about local elections, candidates and issues on a global forum like this?

Speaking from Seattle, Washington, I'm comfortable talking about my local city council members, county council members, state legislature and federal representatives. But that's just me.

I do know that many or even most countries have laws forbidding money from crossing national borders, and the US Federal Election Commission recently ruled that blogs and Internet links are not to be considered campaign donations. But that doesn't speak to the comfort levels.

How do you feel about a site like this? Are you willing to contribute not just basic information like what's available on Wikipedia, but opinions and issue positions? Chadlupkes 17:16, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
