MAA stands for minor-attracted-adult or minor-attracted-adolescent. MAAs can be sexually attracted primarily or exclusively to minors. The term MAA does not imply any action, rather it describes a sexual orientation. It is unfair to say that all MAAs act sexually towards those they are attracted to, contrary to popular belief. (see Goals).

The term minor here denotes a person of either gender who is not yet at the age of Legal Majority, and would be classed roughly as someone aged between 0 and 18 years depending on nationality.

There is a civil rights movement that favors MAAs, but there is also a significant level of opposition.

The term MAA is inclusive of paedosexuals, epehebosexuals and nepiosexuals, which are further sub-divisions based on age. See terminology below.

• Paedosexuality: a sexual orientation focused on prepubescent children. (synonymous with 'paedophilia;' coined by Krafft-Ebing)
• Ephebosexuality: a sexual orientation focused on pubescent minors. (synonymous with 'ephebophilia;' probably coined by Bernard Glueck)
• Nepiosexuality: a sexual orientation focused on toddlers. (synonymous with 'nepiophilia')
• Teleiosexuality: a sexual orientation focused on adults. (coined by Kurt Freund)
