[edit] Advertising Claims

Millions have already been spent on advertising in this campaign, and lots of claims and counter claims are being broadcast. The following claims have been paraphrased from TV ads (Note: Since these ads were approved by the candidates, the claims are credited to them.):

  • DeVos claims that Michigan has lost jobs during Granholm's time as govenor.
  • Granholm claims that DeVos's company (Amway) opened new factories and provided jobs in China.
  • DeVos says that China's laws require the factories to be there, and that the products produced there are sold only in China, not in the U.S.
  • Granholm points out new companies that have moved to or opened new branches in Michigan, like Google.
  • DeVos says that on trips to Japan, Granholm did not visit with key automotive executives.
  • Granholm points out that the others pictured with her in the background are automotive executives (although maybe not from the specific company mentioned in DeVos's ad?).
