Seychelles held its fourth presidential election since the re-introduction of multiparty politics in 1993. Voting took place during a three day period, from 28 July 2006 to 30 July 2006.

The main topic of debate during the campaigns has been Seychelles' economy. These elections are expected to the most closely contested in the country's history. [1]

James Michel won the election with 30,119 votes, or 53.73 percent. Wavel Ramkalawan recieved 25,626 votes, or 45.71 percent.
